2010 Charlye Dixon Memorial Scholarship

The Atlantic Coast Bank Scholarship was established in 1988 and re-named the Charlye Dixon Memorial Scholarship in 1993.  It was created to show Atlantic Coast Bank’s support for education and to help qualified customers with college tuition. This year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving customer of Atlantic Coast Bank.

ELIGIBILITY:
Any customer who has graduated in or will graduate from high school in 2010 and who will be attending an accredited college in 2010 is eligible.  Scholarship eligibility criteria also include:

Applicant must be a customer of Atlantic Coast Bank. (New customers are eligible too!) Applicant must graduate high school during the spring of 2010, and must begin college during the fall or summer of 2010.The deadline to apply for the scholarship is midnight on Monday, March 1, 2010.

All applications must be submitted through the online application process.
* A customer is defined as a person with any loan or deposit account at Atlantic Coast Bank.

SELECTION PROCESS & TIMELINE:
All online applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges and finalists will be selected to determine a winner from each state. All applicants will be notified of their status by email during the first week of March 2010. Subsequently, all finalists will be required to submit supporting documentation, as outlined below, to Atlantic Coast Bank by midnight on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Winners will be announced Thursday, April 15, 2010. The winner will be required to submit a headshot photo to Atlantic Coast Bank for use in the media.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION:
Keep in mind, if an applicant becomes a finalist, he or she will be required to submit the following documents to Atlantic Coast Bank by midnight on Wednesday, March 31, 2010:

  • Acceptance letter to an accredited college or university.
  • Applicant must have applied for financial aid at an accredited college or completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by application deadline. This means that prior to Monday, March 1, 2010; the applicant must have already completed and mailed financial aid forms or submitted it online.  If the applicant is selected as a finalist, he or she will be required to provide Atlantic Coast Bank with a copy of the Student Aid Report in order to show financial need.
  • Applicant must submit an official high school transcript to Atlantic Coast Bank.
  • Applicant must have taken the SAT or ACT and must supply Atlantic Coast Bank with the official results. (Scores provided on an official high school transcript will be accepted)
  • Applicant must supply two letters of recommendation from a source other than a relative.

* Please note, all documentation must be mailed to the above address and not delivered to any Atlantic Coast Bank branches.

*Only eligible applicants and finalists who have completed all of the above will be eligible to win.

Other Information
The Scholarship judging criteria includes: SAT/ACT score, high school grade point average, school/community involvement, honor and awards and financial need.  The scholarship will be announced by Thursday, April 15, 2010 and awarded by Thursday, April 22, 2010.

The $1,000 award will be deposited directly into the winner’s Atlantic Coast Bank account. There is no restriction to applicant’s county of residence.
